How to Maintain a Used Kia

After you buy a used Kia, you’ll want to protect your investment by keeping up with regular servicing and maintenance. Not only will regular maintenance help your Kia stay running well for years, it’ll also help you catch and repair more serious problems before they become expensive overhauls.
The easiest way to keep track of necessary maintenance for your Kia is to follow a service schedule. While no two vehicles are exactly alike, and you should check your vehicle owner’s manual for a detailed schedule, you can get a general idea as to the regular maintenance your Kia needs below.
Every Month
Every month, or more often if needed, perform the following maintenance checks on your Kia:
- Clean the vehicle, inside and out
- Check the tire pressure and tread
- Make sure all interior and exterior lights work
- Check and refill the windshield wiper fluid
- Check the Check Engine Light, and if on, schedule service
Every 3,000 Miles, or Three Months
Four times a year, or once a season, check the following vehicle components:
- Engine oil and air filter
- Fluid levels for the automatic transmission, power steering, and wipers; top up if needed
- Tire pressure, tread, and wear and tear
- All interior and exterior lights
- Engine belts and hoses, and exhaust
- Fuel filter
Every 6,000 Miles, or Six Months
Twice a year, in addition to the 3,000-mile checklist, you’ll also want to check the following:
- Chassis lubrication
- Car battery and cables
- Windshield wipers
You’ll also want to polish your vehicle with a protective wax to keep the paint shiny and rust-free.
Every 12,000 Miles, or Yearly
Every year, check the following systems in your Kia to ensure they’re working properly:
- Steering and suspension
- Brake system
- Coolant levels
- Transmission fluid levels
Ongoing Maintenance for a Used Kia

Perform the above, plus replace the engine air filter and cabin air filter
